About Us

Habitat for Humanity is Working for West Virginians
Since 1988 Habitat for Humanity has built over 500 houses with low-income families in West Virginia. Using volunteer labor, selling houses for no profit and providing no-interest mortgages we bring home ownership within the reach of people with very low incomes. Over one thousand people have a decent place to live because of the tireless work of many volunteers and the generosity of thousands of donors.

Working to Educate
One key part of our mission is to raise awareness of the housing crisis that exists in our state. This includes speaking to governmental officials, religious leaders, legislators and professional associations. Habitat for Humanity is the world leader in affordable housing issues and offers its expertise to lawmakers and policy setters to make housing more affordable for everyone.

Working to Eliminate
Habitat works to address the reasons behind poverty housing. We work one-on-one with people who will be Habitat homeowners, teaching them the necessary skills they need to be successful homeowners like home repair and money management. Our hope is to break the cycle of poverty that holds so many families captive for generation after generation.

Working to Eradicate
Our goal is the total elimination of poverty housing from the landscape of West Virginia. There is no time to rest - every West Virginian needs a decent place to live.

With an estimated 400,000 of our neighbors living in sub-standard housing, we have barely scratched the surface.
